چکیده

Within multimodal prisoner reentry programs, an important challenge for practitioners is how to effectively assign participants to services based on individual need. The Reentry Well-Being Assessment Tool (RWAT) is an innovative practice tool to systematically guide individualized assignment into reentry program services based on a participant’s changing needs during the transition from prison to the community. Clearly defined treatment targets that promote an individual’s well-being are paired with a comprehensive set of assessments within the RWAT to measure progress throughout a prisoner reentry program. This assessment data is then integrated with practitioner expertise to decide whether the type and intensity of services should be increased, decreased, or maintained at pre-determined programmatic time points. The use of the RWAT is a collaborative process between the practitioner and the participant that guides treatment planning towards increased well-being of formerly incarcerated individuals. Future research into the effectiveness of the RWAT within prisoner reentry programs is discussed.

Evidence-based Policy for Successful Prisoner Reentry

The problems of prisoner reentry are by now well known to academics and policymakers. With over two million individuals currently incarcerated, and over 12 million individuals with prior felony convictions, the challenge of integrating this large and growing population has become an urgent priority. Employment is widely considered a centerpiece of the reentry process, with evidence that steady ...

The reciprocal lagged effects of substance use and recidivism in a prisoner reentry context

BACKGROUND Much work has investigated the association between substance use, crime, and recidivism, yet little scholarship has examined these associations longitudinally among samples of recently released prisoners. We examine the lagged reciprocal effects of hard substance use and crime, among other covariates, in the context of the prisoner reentry process. METHODS We rely on data from the ...

Life on the Outside: Returning Home after Incarceration

With record-high incarceration rates, unprecedented extension of state supervision over individuals leaving prison, and a complex maze of legal barriers to reintegration, more people than ever before are returning home after serving time in prison. These individuals face daunting barriers to successful reintegration. Successful reentry requires strong community support networks and comprehensiv...

Optimal Trajectory Study of a Small Size Waverider and Wing-Body Reentry Vehicle at Suborbital Entry Speed of Approximately 4 km/s with Dynamic Pressure and Heat Rate Constraint

A numerical trajectory optimization study of two types of lifting-entry reentry vehicle has been presented at low suborbital speed of 4.113 km/s and -15 degree entry angle. These orbital speeds are typical of medium range ballistic missile with ballistic range of approximately 2000 km at optimum burnout angle of approximately 41 degree for maximum ballistic range. A lifting reentry greatly enha...

Dispersing the Crowd: A Natural Experiment of the Effects of Concentrated Prisoner Reentry

More than 700,000 prisoners are released from incarceration each year in the United States, and most end up residing in urban areas, clustered within a select few neighborhoods. The massive rise in the number of returning prisoners combined with the geographic concentration of these ex-prisoners means that select urban neighborhoods have become inundated with individuals who have served time in...
